Sutherland TZ Vibe

The Sutherland TZ Vibe is a transimpedance phono stage, which is a different animal to a normal phono preamplifier. Instead of amplifying the voltage a cartridge produces, it amplifies its current, presenting a near zero ohm load to the coils. That removes cartridge loading from the equation completely: there are no loading plugs or dip switches to set, because there is nothing to match. For a low impedance moving coil it is the most direct way to get the signal out, and it is the reason these have the reputation they do for low level detail and quiet backgrounds.

Sutherland built it by combining two of his own designs in one chassis, taking the transimpedance input stage from the Little LOCO Mk2 and the second gain stage from the KC Vibe. Gain is set at the factory to Medium and can be moved 6 dB up or down internally. It runs from the standard external 48 volt supply that mounts under the chassis, which is included. The optional Sutherland Linear PSU upgrade is not part of this sale.

One thing to be clear about before you buy: the TZ Vibe works with low output moving coil cartridges only. It is not compatible with moving magnet or moving iron cartridges, and it should not be used with a step up transformer.
