Frequently Asked Questions

Bookshelf vs. floorstanding speakers — which is right for me?

Bookshelf (standmount) speakers suit small to medium rooms and near-field listening, and pair well with a subwoofer for deeper bass. Floorstanders give more bass and scale without a sub. If your room is compact or you want speakers on stands or a shelf, bookshelves are usually the better fit.

Do bookshelf speakers need stands?

Almost always, yes. Rigid stands at the right height put the tweeter near ear level and keep furniture from coloring the sound. Placing them directly on a shelf or cabinet usually hurts imaging and bass, so budget for stands as part of the purchase.

Do I need a subwoofer with bookshelf speakers?

Not necessarily — many play with satisfying bass in the right room. Add a subwoofer if you want deeper low end for movies or larger spaces, or to relieve the speakers of the lowest notes so they play cleaner and louder.

How much amplifier power do bookshelf speakers need?

It depends on their sensitivity and your room, but most are happy with a moderately powered amp — often 30 to 100 watts. We list verified sensitivity and power-handling specs on every product page and can match an amp to the speakers.

How far from the wall should bookshelf speakers go?

Start with a foot or more of space behind them and toe them in slightly toward your seat. Rear-ported designs need more room from the wall than sealed or front-ported ones. Small position changes make an audible difference — experiment before you settle.

Can I trade in my current speakers?

Yes. All Elite Audio accepts trade-ins toward a new purchase. Email sales@alleliteaudio.com with what you have and what you're looking at.
