McIntosh MX110Z Stereo Tube Tuner Preamplifier with Wood Cabinet (Used) – Vintage

Includes the original wood cabinet and service records from Audio Classics. The MX110Z is the final and most refined iteration of McIntosh's legendary MX110 tuner preamplifier, produced between 1963 and 1969 and widely regarded as one of the finest and most collectible vintage tube preamplifier and tuner combinations ever made. Combining a full-featured tube preamplifier with a highly sensitive FM multiplex stereo tuner in a single chassis, it represents the very best of McIntosh's golden era engineering.

The preamplifier section delivers a frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz with total harmonic distortion of just 0.2%, with phono inputs for two separate turntables, each with its own 3mV sensitivity input and independent level control, alongside multiple auxiliary inputs. Independent per-channel bass and treble tone controls, a loudness compensation circuit for full-bodied playback at low listening levels, an electronic phase switch, and a balance control give the MX110Z a degree of hands-on system control that very few preamplifiers of any era have matched. The FM tuner section features interstation noise suppression, a tuning indicator, an FM multiplex stereo indicator, and the iconic McIntosh magic eye tube signal strength display in place of a conventional meter needle, a detail that is as visually arresting today as it was sixty years ago.

The Z designation identifies this as the champagne-faced final version of the MX110, considered the most desirable by collectors, with the classic gold and black anodized glass front panel and signature blue dial illumination intact. The original walnut wood cabinet is included, giving the unit its full period-correct presentation.
