Overview

The Wharfedale Aura 2 brings the engineering that made the flagship Elysian project so celebrated into a compact 3-way standmount that fits real rooms. At its heart is the Wharfedale AMT high-frequency transducer, a folded diaphragm design that moves air with remarkable speed and low mass. The result is treble that is airy and detailed without the etch that can fatigue over long listening sessions, along with a lifelike sense of harmonic overtone on voices and acoustic instruments.

Below the AMT sits a dedicated 4 inch glass fibre matrix midrange and a 6.5 inch glass fibre matrix bass driver, an arrangement that lets each band breathe rather than asking a single midbass cone to do everything. The woven glass fibre cones are stiff and well damped, delivering clean midrange textures and articulate low end that reaches to 33Hz at the -6dB point. The SLPP port system and heavily braced multi-layer cabinet keep the enclosure quiet so the drivers do the talking.

Finished to a high standard in Piano Black, White Gloss, or Piano Walnut, the Aura 2 is sold as a pair and can be ordered with matching stands for a turnkey setup. It rewards careful placement and a capable amplifier, making it an outstanding choice for a serious two channel system or a high performance stereo pairing where you want monitor-class transparency with genuine musical warmth.

Key Features

  • Wharfedale AMT Tweeter. The Air Motion Transformer uses a folded diaphragm in a strong magnetic field to reproduce transients with exceptional clarity and shimmering realism, an alternative character to conventional dome or ribbon tweeters.
  • True 3-Way Design. A dedicated 4 inch midrange lets the 6.5 inch bass driver focus on low frequencies, reducing the compromises of two way standmounts and improving midrange purity.
  • Glass Fibre Matrix Cones. Proprietary woven glass fibre diaphragms are light, stiff, and well damped, delivering detailed midrange and controlled, articulate bass.
  • SLPP Port System. Wharfedale's advanced port technology smooths airflow for cleaner low end extension down to 33Hz with reduced turbulence and noise.
  • Multi-Layer Braced Cabinet. Meticulously crafted, heavily damped enclosures suppress resonance so the drivers deliver a low coloration presentation.
  • Elysian Heritage. The Aura series draws directly on Wharfedale's flagship Elysian research, bringing reference-derived engineering into a more compact format.
  • Premium Finishes and Optional Stands. Choose Piano Black, White Gloss, or Piano Walnut, with the option to add matching Aura 2 stands for correct height and rigid support.

How the Aura 2 Compares

Wharfedale Aura 2 vs LEAK Sandwich 250

The LEAK Sandwich 250 offers a warm, vintage-leaning voice with retro styling. Choose it if you prefer a classic British sound, or the Aura 2 if you want the speed and air of an AMT tweeter with a true 3-way layout.

Wharfedale Aura 2 vs Spendor Classic 4/5 Two Way Stand Mount

The Spendor Classic 4/5 is a compact two way voiced for natural midrange in smaller rooms. The Aura 2 is larger with dedicated midrange and bass drivers, better suited to those wanting fuller low end and higher output.

Wharfedale Aura 2 vs Klipsch Rebellion Heritage Premium

Klipsch Rebellion brings high sensitivity and a lively, dynamic horn-loaded character. Consider it for effortless punch with lower power amps, or the Aura 2 for a smoother, more refined AMT presentation.

Wharfedale Aura 2 vs Gauder Akustik Capello 40 Aluminum Stands

If you order the Aura 2 without the matching stands, these premium aluminum stands are a rigid, high quality alternative to place the speakers at proper listening height.

Wharfedale Aura 2 vs Wharfedale Aura 3 (next step up)

Step up to the Aura 3, a dual 5 inch 3-way floorstander with AMT tweeter and glass fibre matrix cones in the Aura series.

Wharfedale Aura 2 vs Wharfedale Aura 1 (next step down)

Step down to the Aura 1, a 5 inch 2-way bookshelf pair with AMT tweeter in the Aura series.

Recommended Amplifiers

The Aura 2 is a 6 ohm, 88dB standmount that likes clean, controlled power in the 25 to 150 watt range. These AEA amplifiers pair well by output, sonic character, and value.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the Wharfedale Aura 2 sold as a pair or individually?

They are sold as a pair. Each order includes two speakers.

What type of tweeter does the Aura 2 use?

It uses the Wharfedale AMT (Air Motion Transformer) high-frequency transducer, a 27 x 90mm folded diaphragm design known for clarity and fast transient response.

Is the Aura 2 a 2-way or 3-way speaker?

It is a true 3-way design with a 6.5 inch bass driver, a 4 inch midrange, and the AMT tweeter.

What is the frequency response?

It measures 42Hz to 22kHz at +/-3dB, with bass extension down to 33Hz at the -6dB point.

What is the sensitivity?

Sensitivity is 88dB at 2.83V and 1 meter.

What is the nominal impedance?

Nominal impedance is 6 ohms and it is 8 ohm compatible, with a minimum impedance of 3.5 ohms.

How much amplifier power do they need?

Wharfedale recommends amplifiers rated from 25 to 150 watts. A quality amp within that range will drive them well.

Do I need a subwoofer with the Aura 2?

Not necessarily. With bass extension to 33Hz they deliver satisfying low end on their own, though a subwoofer can add depth for home theater or bass heavy music.

What finishes are available?

Piano Black, White Gloss, and Piano Walnut.

Can I buy them with matching stands?

Yes. The Aura 2 can be ordered as speakers only or with the matching Aura 2 stands. Ask us and we can configure your order.

What are the dimensions and weight?

Each speaker measures 22.05 inches high by 11.26 inches wide by 15.83 inches deep and weighs 45 pounds.

Are these shielded for use near a TV?

No, they do not include AV magnetic shielding. Modern displays are generally unaffected, but keep that in mind for older CRT sets.

What is the SLPP port system?

It is Wharfedale's advanced port technology that smooths airflow to deliver cleaner, more extended bass with reduced port noise.

What amplifier do you recommend for the Aura 2?

Well matched options include the Audiolab 9000A, Advance Paris A10 APEX, and Parasound HALO integrated and power amps. See our recommended amplifiers section for details.

Are these good for a small room?

They work in medium and larger rooms especially well. In small rooms, careful placement away from walls helps manage the bass output.

How far from the wall should I place them?

Since they use a rear-facing bass reflex port, allow some breathing room behind them and fine tune the distance to balance bass weight and clarity.

What crossover frequencies does the Aura 2 use?

The crossover points are 520Hz and 4.5kHz, dividing duties across the bass, midrange, and AMT tweeter.

Is Wharfedale a reputable brand?

Yes. Wharfedale is a legendary British loudspeaker brand and the Aura series draws on the engineering developed for its flagship Elysian project.

Is All Elite Audio an authorized Wharfedale dealer?

Yes. AEA is an authorized Wharfedale dealer in Maryland, so your purchase includes full warranty coverage and genuine product.
