Overview

The REL Acoustics T/7x is an 8 inch active subwoofer sitting in the heart of REL's music focused T/x range. Like all RELs, it is engineered to be a true augmentation of your existing full range system rather than a standalone LFE box. Its signature high-level Speakon connection is taken directly from your main amplifier's speaker terminals, so the T/7x hears the exact same signal as your loudspeakers and follows the character, timing and tonal signature of that amplifier. The result is bass that starts and stops with the music and integrates so seamlessly that you stop noticing the sub and simply hear a bigger, more effortless soundstage.

Inside, a forward-firing active 8 inch driver is paired with a down-firing passive radiator to extend low frequency output from a compact, room-friendly cabinet. Fast, stiff-cone driver technology and a robust Class A/B amplifier give the T/7x the speed needed to keep pace with fine standmount and floorstanding speakers, while continuously variable crossover, gain and phase controls let you dial in a precise blend for your room. A separate .1/LFE input handles home theater duty, so a single sub serves both music and movies.

The T/7x is ideal for the listener with quality bookshelf or medium floorstanding speakers in a small to medium room who wants deeper, more dynamic bass without sacrificing musicality. It also welcomes REL's optional wireless kits for a clean, cable-free install, and can be run in stereo pairs or stacked for even greater scale and coherence.

How the T/7x Compares

REL T/7x vs REL T/9x

The T/9x steps up to a 10 inch active driver, a larger passive radiator and a more powerful amplifier, giving it greater deep-bass output and headroom for larger rooms and bigger speakers. The T/7x, with its 8 inch driver, is the more compact choice tuned for small to medium rooms and standmount or medium floorstanding mains. Both share the same high-level Speakon philosophy and continuously variable controls, so the decision comes down to room size and desired scale. See the REL T/9x.

REL T/7x vs REL T/5x

The T/5x is the smallest, most discreet member of the T/x range, built around an 8 inch driver in a very compact sealed cabinet ideal for tight spaces and desktop-adjacent systems. The T/7x adds a down-firing passive radiator and more amplifier power for deeper reach and greater dynamic weight. Choose the T/5x for maximum discretion and the T/7x when you want more low-end authority in the same music-first character. See the REL T/5x.

REL T/7x vs REL Classic 98

The Classic 98 shares REL's musical integration goals but wraps a 10 inch driver in a vintage inspired cabinet with a retro aesthetic aimed at listeners who want a subwoofer that looks the part alongside classic gear. The T/7x offers a smaller footprint and a contemporary high-gloss look focused on discreet placement. Both connect via high-level Speakon; pick by room size and the style you want on display. See the REL Classic 98.

REL T/7x vs REL HT/1205 MKII

The HT/1205 MKII is part of REL's home theater optimized line, built with a 12 inch driver and voicing geared toward maximum LFE impact for movies. The T/7x is a music-first design that still serves home theater via its .1/LFE input, in a far more compact cabinet. Choose the HT/1205 MKII for a dedicated cinema room and the T/7x for a two-channel or blended music and movie system. See the REL HT/1205 MKII.

Recommended System Pairings

The T/7x augments an existing system, so pair it with the speakers it will fill in below, an amplifier to drive those mains, and a REL wireless kit or cable for a clean connection.

  • LEAK Sandwich 150 Bookshelf These standmount speakers deliver refined midrange but roll off in the low bass, exactly where the T/7x fills in for a full-range result in a small to medium room.
  • Mission 750 Bookshelf A compact monitor that benefits enormously from the T/7x adding weight and extension below it, creating a bigger soundstage without crowding a smaller space.
  • LEAK Stereo 130 Integrated This integrated drives the mains and provides the speaker terminals the T/7x taps via its high-level Speakon connection, so the sub follows the amplifier's exact character.
  • REL Arrow Wireless The Arrow system is designed specifically for the T/x series, giving you a clean, cable-free connection when running the sub across the room.
  • REL Bassline Blue High Level Cable An upgraded high-level Speakon cable that refines the wired connection between your amplifier and the T/7x for the tightest possible integration.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the REL T/7x?
It is an 8 inch active subwoofer in REL's music focused T/x range, designed to augment a full range system using REL's high-level Speakon connection so it follows the character of your main amplifier.

What size driver does the T/7x use?
It uses a forward-firing 8 inch active driver paired with a down-firing passive radiator for extended, controlled low frequency output.

What is REL's high-level connection and why does it matter?
The high-level Speakon cable is taken from your main amplifier's speaker terminals, so the sub receives the same signal as your speakers and follows the exact character and timing of the amplifier. This is what makes REL integration so seamless for music.

Can I use the T/7x for home theater?
Yes. In addition to the high-level connection, the T/7x has a separate .1/LFE input so it can serve movies while also excelling with two-channel music.

What amplifier does the T/7x use?
It uses a Class A/B amplifier tuned for speed and low distortion to keep pace with fine standmount and floorstanding speakers.

How low does the T/7x go?
It extends to approximately 30 Hz at -6 dB, which delivers satisfying depth in small to medium rooms.

What controls does it have?
The T/7x offers continuously variable crossover, gain and phase controls so you can precisely blend it with your speakers and room.

Can I run two T/7x subwoofers?
Yes. REL subs are frequently run in stereo pairs or stacked line arrays for greater scale, smoother room response and improved coherence.

Is the T/7x wireless?
It can be made wireless with REL's optional kits such as the Arrow, which is designed for the T/x series, or AirShip II and HT-Air MKII systems.

What finishes are available?
The T/7x is offered in High Gloss Black and High Gloss White.

What speakers pair well with the T/7x?
It complements quality standmount and medium floorstanding speakers such as the LEAK Sandwich 150 or Mission 750, filling in the low bass below them.

How is the T/7x different from the T/5x?
The T/5x is a very compact sealed 8 inch sub for tight spaces, while the T/7x adds a down-firing passive radiator and more power for deeper reach and greater dynamic weight.

How is the T/7x different from the T/9x?
The T/9x uses a 10 inch driver and a more powerful amplifier for larger rooms and bigger speakers, while the T/7x is the more compact choice for small to medium rooms.

Do I need special cables to connect it?
The T/7x includes the high-level Speakon cable, a low-level RCA cable and a .1/LFE cable. Upgraded options like the REL Bassline Blue are available for refined performance.

Will the T/7x work with my integrated amplifier?
Yes. It connects via the high-level Speakon cable to your amplifier's speaker terminals, which works with integrated amplifiers such as the LEAK Stereo 130.

How big is the T/7x?
It measures roughly 13.6 x 12.2 x 15.4 inches and weighs about 31 pounds, making it easy to place discreetly.

Does adding the T/7x replace part of my system?
No. A subwoofer adds to your existing system; the T/7x fills in the low bass below your main speakers rather than replacing any component.

Is the T/7x good for both music and movies?
Yes. It is voiced music-first for two-channel listening and also handles home theater through its dedicated .1/LFE input.

What is the warranty on the T/7x?
REL Acoustics provides a 3 year parts and labor warranty to the original owner when purchased from an authorized dealer.
