What the EVO 300 Actually Is
The PrimaLuna EVO 300 Tube Integrated Amplifier is a vacuum tube integrated built around a classic EL34 push pull output stage, delivering 42 watts per channel. It runs a full complement of tubes, four EL34 output tubes paired with six 12AU7 small signal tubes, and lets you flip between triode and ultralinear operation from the remote. That single feature is central to its personality, and we will come back to it.
What sets the EVO 300 apart from so many tube designs is how much serious engineering PrimaLuna packs behind that traditional topology. The signal path is point to point wired with premium Swiss wire, using Takman resistors and an ALPS Blue Velvet potentiometer for volume. The power supply feeds a potted toroidal power transformer, and the output stage uses wide bandwidth output transformers that give the amp its extension and grip. The AC Offset Killer keeps the transformer quiet and mechanically settled. This is a lot of build for an integrated at this weight, and at 68.2 pounds you feel it the moment you lift it.
Adaptive AutoBias and the Bad Tube Indicator
Two features make the EVO 300 genuinely livable as a daily driver. The Adaptive AutoBias circuit continuously sets and holds correct bias on the output tubes, so you never pick up a screwdriver and a meter to keep the amp in tune. It also means you can roll different output tubes without rebiasing, which opens the door to tube experimentation without the anxiety. The Bad Tube Indicator flags a failing tube before it becomes a problem, so you are not guessing when something drifts. Together they take the traditional fussiness out of tube ownership.
How It Sounds
The EVO 300 has the tonal density and dimensionality people chase in tube amplification, but it does not trade away control the way looser designs can. In ultralinear mode you get the fuller power delivery, a bit more slam and headroom, which suits busier music and larger rooms. Flip to triode and the output drops in wattage but the midrange opens up further, images float with more air around them, and the presentation turns more intimate and liquid. Having both on tap from the listening chair is the reason so many owners never feel the need to change amps again. You tune the amp to the recording and the mood.
The EL34 tube is prized for its vocal richness and harmonic warmth through the midband, and the EVO 300 leans into that character while the wide bandwidth transformers keep the top end extended rather than rolled off. Bass is tuneful and well shaped rather than thunderous, which is the honest tradeoff of a 42 watt push pull design. Feed it music that rewards texture and tone, voices, acoustic instruments, jazz, well recorded rock, and it rewards you back.

The EVO 100 and EVO 200 share the family DNA and the same commitment to point to point wiring and AutoBias, but the EVO 300 steps up the power supply, parts quality, and the triode and ultralinear switching that defines its flexibility. If you want the fuller PrimaLuna experience with the most tuning options short of the reference tier, the EVO 300 is the sweet spot.
Stepping Up
The EVO 400 is the flagship integrated, with a still more elaborate power supply and output section for those chasing the last measure of authority and refinement. It is the move if your speakers are especially demanding or your room is large.
A Different Path
If you love the PrimaLuna preamp stage but want more solid state style power for tougher speakers, the EVO 300 Hybrid pairs a tube input stage with a solid state output section. The tube EVO 300 is the choice when you want that full tube signature front to back.
Connectivity and Real World Use
The EVO 300 is built to be the heart of a real system. You get five stereo RCA inputs plus a dedicated home theater bypass, so you can fold the amp into a surround setup and let a processor drive the front channels without a volume conflict. There is a tape output, a stereo and mono subwoofer output for adding low end reinforcement, and a quarter inch headphone jack for late night listening straight off the tubes. Speaker connections include both 4 and 8 ohm taps, which lets you match the amp properly to your speakers rather than compromising.
Vinyl listeners should note the optional moving magnet phono stage, which installs internally and keeps your turntable in the same tidy box rather than adding an outboard unit. Between that, the home theater bypass, and the subwoofer outputs, the EVO 300 can genuinely serve as a one box hub for music and movies.

The Klipsch Heresy IV and Klipsch Forte IV are exceptionally easy to drive and let triode mode sing in small to medium rooms. Step to the Klipsch Cornwall IV, Klipsch La Scala AL6, or the Klipschorn AK7 and the EVO 300 fills large spaces with ease, because those high sensitivity designs turn every one of those 42 watts into serious sound pressure. The Klipsch RF-7 III is another spirited match.
If you prefer a more classic, warmer voiced monitor style presentation, the KLH Model Seven and the Mission 770 pair beautifully with the EL34 midrange. For a refined, articulate two way, the Spendor A7.2 and the Amphion Argon 3LX are lovely, though with lower sensitivity designs like these you will want a reasonable room and moderate listening levels to let the amp breathe. When in doubt, matching to efficient speakers is always the surest path with this amplifier.
