The AX-505 is TEAC's compact, high-performance integrated amplifier from the Reference 500 series, sharing the same A4-sized footprint philosophy as the AP-505 power amplifier but adding a full preamp section, volume control, and headphone amplifier in a single chassis. At its core is the same TEAC-tuned Hypex Ncore class-D module found in the AP-505, delivering 130 watts per channel and carefully voiced by TEAC's engineers through extensive listening sessions to maximize musical expression across the full spectrum of music.

The fully balanced circuit design runs end-to-end through the amplifier, with a pair of XLR balanced analog inputs helping to minimize noise pickup from interconnects. Three unbalanced RCA line inputs are also provided. MUSES op-amps in the analog section and a ladder-resistor type volume control — chosen specifically for hi-fi applications — reflect the care taken in component selection throughout. The power supply uses a high-capacity toroidal-core transformer with Schottky barrier diode rectification for cleaner, more stable current delivery and lower noise across all circuit stages. A passive cooling design keeps the unit completely fanless and silent in operation, with all aluminum alloy panels firmly attached to a robust steel inner chassis to minimize vibration transmission. A dedicated CCLC headphone amplifier with ground-separate connection handles the front-panel headphone output. The front-panel analog level meters with four-step dimming and adjustable sensitivity, machined aluminum volume knob, and classic toggle power switch give the AX-505 a distinctly purposeful, tactile character.
