Overview

The Musical Fidelity M6xTT brings the design philosophy of the legendary M1 turntable into a more accessible form within the M6 line. It follows the same dual chassis approach found in the flagship M8xTT, pairing the inert mass of metal alloys with the low resonance qualities of acrylic. The motor is decoupled from the platter and tonearm so the music can flow freely without mechanical interference clouding the presentation.

At its heart is a precision DC driven AC generator that creates the frequency and voltage for the motor from scratch. This means your playback speed is not tied to the quality of your incoming mains power, delivering exceptional speed stability across both 33 and 45 RPM. A one piece belt made without any gluing connects the motor to the TPE damped 6.6kg aluminium platter, while the inverted bearing with a ceramic ball tip keeps rotation quiet and stable.

The included 9 inch TA9 tonearm shares its core design with the M8xTT, featuring a conical aluminium tube, transparent acrylic bearing ring, and full VTA and azimuth adjustment. With two TPE damped counterweights supplied, it accommodates a wide range of cartridges. As a new authorized Musical Fidelity dealer, All Elite Audio is proud to offer this British engineered turntable to Maryland listeners.

Key Features

  • Dual Chassis Isolation. Two acrylic plinths are separated by heavyweight aluminium feet with teflon spacers, decoupling the motor from the platter and tonearm to keep vibration away from the music.
  • Precision Speed Control. A precision DC driven AC generator creates the motor frequency and voltage from scratch, so speed stability is not compromised by the quality of your mains power.
  • 9 Inch TA9 Tonearm. Sharing its core design with the M8xTT, the TA9 features a conical aluminium tube, transparent acrylic bearing ring, and a direct 5P DIN output for a clean signal path.
  • Full Adjustability. The tonearm offers full VTA and azimuth adjustment and ships with two TPE damped counterweights, allowing careful setup for a broad range of cartridges.
  • Heavy Aluminium Platter. The 6.6kg TPE damped aluminium platter is driven by a one piece belt manufactured without any gluing, promoting smooth and stable rotation.
  • Inverted Ceramic Bearing. An inverted platter bearing with a ceramic ball tip keeps the platter spinning quietly and consistently for low noise playback.
  • Adjustable Damped Feet. Four heavyweight TPE damped aluminium feet with magnetic support can be adjusted in height by turning the riffled middle section to precisely level the turntable.

How the M6xtt Compares

Musical Fidelity M6xtt vs Thorens TD 1601 Sub-Chassis Belt-Drive Turntable

The Thorens TD 1601 is another belt drive design with a sprung sub chassis approach to isolation. Listeners who favor a classic suspended deck character may lean toward the Thorens, while the M6xTT offers a dual chassis mass loaded philosophy with its own tonearm included.

Musical Fidelity M6xtt vs Luxman PD-151 Mark II Turntable

The Luxman PD-151 Mark II is a belt drive turntable known for its refined Japanese engineering and neutral presentation. The choice between it and the M6xTT often comes down to whether you prefer Luxman voicing or the British character of Musical Fidelity.

Musical Fidelity M6xtt vs MoFi Electronics MasterDeck Reference Turntable

The MoFi MasterDeck Reference is a belt drive design with a focus on precise tonearm geometry. Some listeners prefer its American approach to setup and voicing, while the M6xTT emphasizes decoupled speed generation and dual chassis isolation.

Musical Fidelity M6xtt vs Thorens TD 1600 Sub-Chassis Belt-Drive Turntable

The Thorens TD 1600 shares the sub chassis belt drive lineage of the TD 1601 in a slightly more streamlined package. It suits those who want a traditional suspended deck, whereas the M6xTT delivers a mass loaded acrylic and aluminium construction.

Musical Fidelity M6xtt vs Musical Fidelity M8xtt (next step up)

The M8xtt is a larger, heavier build fitted with the 10 inch TA10 tonearm.
