Velodyne MicroVee X – Key Features

 Overview

The Velodyne MicroVee X is Velodyne’s high‑performance, ultra‑compact subwoofer. It’s engineered to deliver precise, low‑distortion bass in a very small footprint—suitable for both music and home theater systems where space is limited. The design integrates advanced DSP, a Class A/B amplifier, and a rigid aluminum enclosure to push the boundaries of what a compact subwoofer can do.

It continues and upgrades the MicroVee lineage, with the driver, amplifier, and internal electronics reworked to achieve better performance while retaining the small form factor.

Key Features & Specifications (Bullet Points)

  • 6.5‑inch active driver (front‑firing)

  • Two side-mounted 6.5‑inch passive radiators

  • 300 W RMS / 800 W peak Class A/B amplifier

  • Frequency response (±3 dB): 32–180 Hz

  • Overall response: ~18–300 Hz

  • Low-pass crossover: 40–200 Hz (12 dB/octave)

  • Phase control: 0° to 180°

  • “Subwoofer Direct” mode (bypass internal crossover)

  • DSP with distortion control (DDCS) to reduce distortion significantly

  • Remote control (volume, crossover, phase) + “Remote Eye” IR extender

  • Rigid aluminum housing optimized for heat dissipation and low resonance

  • Dimensions: ~23 cm × 23 cm × 25 cm (including feet/connectors)

  • Weight: ~9 kg

  • Finish options: Black / White (some markets)

  • Typical street price: ~ US $1,079 (dealer) (MSRP higher)

Strengths

  • Excellent sound performance relative to its size

  • Compact and visually unobtrusive

  • Flexible integration (line, LFE, speaker-level inputs)

  • Low distortion via DSP

  • Remote control and IR extender allow hidden placement

  • Rigid aluminum structure helps reduce cabinet resonances

  • Good crossover flexibility and phase adjustment

Limitations & Considerations

  • Doesn’t reach the extreme deep bass of full‑size subs (< ~25 Hz)

  • Output may be limited in very large rooms or demanding home theaters

  • Small driver must work harder to deliver high SPLs

  • Performance heavily dependent on proper setup (placement, crossover, room acoustics)

  • At higher prices, you might find larger subs offering more output or lower extension
