Instead of a packaged DAC chip, the UD-701N uses a discrete Delta Sigma DAC configuration built up in dual monaural form. That means the left and right channels each get their own converter circuitry, which supports separation and channel balance. It decodes PCM up to 384 kHz and 32-bit, DSD up to 22.5 MHz, and MQA, so high resolution files and streaming tiers are handled natively.
Fully balanced, dual monaural signal path
The circuit topology is fully balanced and dual monaural throughout, paired with the TEAC-HCLD output buffer. HCLD stands for TEAC's high current line driver approach, which is designed to drive cables and downstream components with authority. You get balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA analog outputs, so it partners cleanly with balanced or single ended amplifiers.
Network and streaming
The UD-701N is Roon Ready and supports TIDAL, Qobuz, Spotify and DLNA. If you run Roon as your library and playback platform, this unit slots in as an endpoint without extra hardware. Digital inputs include USB Type B, coaxial and optical, so a computer, a disc transport or a game console or television can all feed it.
10 MHz clock input
For listeners who want to take clocking further, the UD-701N includes a 10 MHz external clock input designed for the TEAC CG-10M-X master clock. This is an upgrade path rather than a requirement, and it lets you refine timing accuracy from an external reference later.
A serious headphone stage
Headphone listeners are well served here. The UD-701N offers a 4-pin XLR balanced output and a 6.3 mm unbalanced output, so both balanced and standard headphones are covered directly from the same fully balanced architecture that drives the line outputs.

The UD-701N is voiced in the Reference tradition, aiming for clarity, resolution and a composed, low noise presentation. The discrete dual monaural DAC and fully balanced path are engineered to keep channels separated and the noise floor low, which tends to favor a spacious and controlled sound. With a stated frequency response of 5 Hz to 80 kHz, it is built to pass a wide bandwidth to the rest of your system. Its substantial build, at roughly 14.0 kg in a 444 x 111 x 333 mm chassis, reflects the linear and mechanical engineering TEAC puts into these components.

If your center of gravity is headphone listening and desktop or near field use rather than full network features, the TEAC UD-507 is built around that goal.
