The LEAK Sandwich 250 carries one of the most storied names in British hi-fi. When Harold Leak introduced the original Sandwich loudspeaker, its signature idea was a cone made from a lightweight core bonded between skins, a construction that stayed rigid without adding mass. The current Sandwich 250 revives that principle with a genuine aluminum-foamcore Sandwich cone, and it does so in a substantial three-way standmount that aims higher than most bookshelf designs.
This is a passive loudspeaker, which means it needs an amplifier to bring it to life. It does not stream, decode digital files, or contain any electronics of its own. The three-way layout gives the Sandwich 250 a spacious, unforced presentation. Because the midrange driver is not also being asked to move air for bass, voices and instruments in the crucial midband have room to breathe. The large Sandwich woofer supplies weight and scale that smaller bookshelf designs simply cannot reach, with usable low-frequency extension down toward the low 30s.
The coated textile dome tweeter leans toward a refined rather than aggressive top end, which suits long listening sessions and a wide range of material. Overall this is a speaker built for scale, dynamic ease, and a big soundstage in a room of moderate to generous size.
Where It Sits in the LEAK Range
Within the Sandwich family, the 250 is the more ambitious sibling of the two-way LEAK Sandwich 150. The Sandwich 150 is a more traditional two-way standmount that will fit smaller rooms and closer listening distances with ease. The Sandwich 250 steps up to a three-way design with a dedicated midrange, a larger woofer, deeper bass extension, and greater output capability. If your room is larger, or you want more low-end authority and a more relaxed division of labor between drivers, the 250 is the natural choice. If space is tight, the 150 may be the better fit.
