Wharfedale EVO5.2
The EVO5.2 is a larger 3-way standmount, also sold as a pair, that adds a 2 inch (50 mm) soft dome midrange between its 6.5 inch (165 mm) black woven Kevlar bass cone and the shared 35 x 70 mm AMT tweeter, with crossover points at 800 Hz and 4.3 kHz. That extra driver and larger cabinet extend its reach to 44 Hz (+/-3 dB) and 38 Hz (-6 dB), while lifting sensitivity to 88 dB and peak SPL to 105 dB. It accepts amplifiers from 25 to 120 W. At 19.6 in x 10.2 in x 15.4 in and 33.1 lbs each, it is a substantially bigger speaker that asks for more room and sturdier stands.
Which Should You Buy by Scenario
I have a small or medium room and limited shelf space
Choose the EVO5.1, since its smaller 13.4 in x 8.7 in x 12.8 in cabinet and 17.6 lbs weight make it far easier to place on a stand or shelf without dominating the space. Its frequency response down to 56 Hz (+/-3 dB) is well suited to rooms where a larger speaker would overload the low end.
I want the deepest bass and the most output for a larger room
Go with the EVO5.2, which extends to 44 Hz (+/-3 dB) and 38 Hz (-6 dB) and reaches a peak SPL of 105 dB compared to the EVO5.1's 98 dB. The larger 6.5 inch bass cone and bigger cabinet give it the authority to fill more space.
I listen closely to vocals and detail and care about midrange clarity
The EVO5.2 has an advantage here because it is a 3-way design with a dedicated 2 inch (50 mm) soft dome midrange, letting the vocal region play through its own driver rather than sharing duties with the bass cone. Its crossover points at 800 Hz and 4.3 kHz hand off midrange work to that dome, while the EVO5.1 relies on a single 2.7 kHz crossover between its bass driver and tweeter.
My amplifier is modest and I want an easy match
Either model is a sensible fit, but the EVO5.1 is the more forgiving choice with its 25 to 100 W recommendation and 87 dB sensitivity paired to a 3.4 ohms minimum impedance. The EVO5.2 dips slightly lower to a 3.2 ohms minimum and rewards amplifiers with a bit more headroom, accepting up to 120 W.
I want the most speaker regardless of size
The EVO5.2 is the flagship standmount of the two, offering the extra midrange driver, deeper extension, higher sensitivity, and greater peak SPL. If footprint and placement are not a concern, it is the more capable of the pair.
A Note on Matching and the Rest of the System
Both speakers are 4 ohms compatible, and both drop into the low 3 ohm range at their minimum (3.4 ohms for the EVO5.1, 3.2 ohms for the EVO5.2), so a stable amplifier that is comfortable with a 4 ohm load is the safest path. With sensitivities of 87 dB and 88 dB respectively, they are not especially demanding, but staying within the recommended power windows (25 to 100 W for the EVO5.1 and 25 to 120 W for the EVO5.2) gives you clean headroom. Because both use a tri-directional SLPP port, give them a little breathing room from walls and set them on solid stands, keeping in mind the EVO5.2's larger size and 33.1 lbs weight.
