REL's HT Series: Bass Built for the Big Picture
REL Acoustics is a British specialist known for sub-bass systems that integrate seamlessly with full-range speakers. While much of the REL catalog is voiced with two-channel music in mind, the HT Series has a single, focused mission: delivering the deep, effortless slam that modern movie soundtracks demand. These are dedicated home theater subwoofers, engineered to reproduce the .1 LFE channel with authority and to fill a room with the low-frequency impact that makes explosions, rumbles and cinematic scores feel physical.
If your priority is a reference-grade movie experience, the HT Series is where REL concentrates its home theater expertise. Below we compare the three models All Elite Audio carries, explain what they share, and help you choose by your speakers, your room, and how you plan to use the system.
What the HT Series Shares
Every model in this lineup follows the same core design philosophy. Each uses a forward-firing, long-throw active driver paired with a Class D amplifier, housed in a compact cabinet finished in high gloss or matte black to disappear into a theater environment. All three offer continuously variable controls for crossover, gain (level) and phase, so you can dial the subwoofer into your room and blend it smoothly with your main speakers.
Critically for a clean install, each HT model is compatible with the REL HT-Air MKII wireless system (sold separately), which transmits the signal to the subwoofer without running a long wired connection across the room. Remember that a wireless transmitter makes no sound on its own; it serves a specific compatible subwoofer, so confirm the pairing before you buy.
A note on connections and use case
These are home theater subwoofers optimized for LFE slam. The HT/1003 and HT/1510 include a High Level Speakon input alongside low level RCA and the .1/LFE input, giving you added flexibility in mixed music and movie systems. The HT/1205 is configured primarily around the .1/LFE input, reflecting its dedicated cinema focus. If seamless two-channel music integration through REL's signature High Level connection is your main goal, that difference is worth discussing with us before you decide.
Model by Model
REL HT/1003: The Compact Cornerstone
The REL HT/1003 is the most compact member of the lineup, built around a 10 inch forward-firing long-throw driver and a 300 watt Class D amplifier. It reaches down to 26 Hz at minus 6 dB in room, and at roughly 15 inches tall it tucks neatly beside a rack or into a corner. With High Level Speakon, low level RCA and .1/LFE inputs, it is the most versatile connector of the group for a smaller integrated system.
Who it suits: smaller and medium theater rooms, apartments and dens, and anyone pairing with compact bookshelf or slim floorstanding speakers who wants genuine deep bass without a large footprint.
REL HT/1205: The Cinema Specialist
The REL HT/1205 steps up to a 12 inch (300mm) long-throw driver driven by a 500 watt RMS Class D amplifier. Configured around the .1/LFE input, it is squarely aimed at the movie enthusiast who wants more displacement and headroom for soundtrack impact than the 10 inch model provides. The larger driver and more powerful amplifier translate into greater output and a more effortless sense of scale during demanding scenes.
Who it suits: dedicated home theater rooms and larger living spaces where movies are the priority, paired with mid-size to larger floorstanding speakers and a full surround system.
REL HT/1510 Predator: The Output Flagship
The REL HT/1510 Predator is the largest and most capable HT subwoofer AEA carries, built around a 15 inch forward-firing long-throw driver with a Class D amplifier. It returns the full input complement of High Level Speakon, low level RCA and .1/LFE, and it is designed to be run as stereo pairs or in stacked line arrays for even greater output and a larger, more enveloping soundstage.
Who it suits: large or dedicated theater rooms, big floorstanding speakers, and enthusiasts who want the deepest, most physical low-frequency impact, with the option to add a second unit later for a true reference-level array.
How to Choose: By Speakers, Room and Priority
Match the driver to your room and speakers
As a general rule, larger rooms and larger main speakers call for a larger driver and more amplifier power to keep pace. A 10 inch HT/1003 excels in intimate spaces, the 12 inch HT/1205 scales up to serious home theater rooms, and the 15 inch HT/1510 Predator anchors the largest spaces or high-output installs.
Movies versus mixed use
All three are cinema-focused designs. If you also value music integration and want REL's High Level connection available, lean toward the HT/1003 or HT/1510, which include the Speakon input. If your system is a dedicated theater built around the LFE channel, the HT/1205 is purpose-made for exactly that job.
Which Should You Buy? By Scenario
- Apartment, den or compact theater: the REL HT/1003 delivers deep, room-appropriate bass and the most flexible inputs in a small cabinet.
- Dedicated movie room with larger speakers: the REL HT/1205 brings the extra displacement and headroom that soundtracks reward.
- Large room or reference-level impact: the REL HT/1510 Predator offers the most output, with room to grow into a stacked array.
- Want maximum output and a bigger soundstage: a pair of HT/1510 Predators run as a stereo pair or line array is the ultimate expression of this lineup.
- Clean install without a long cable run: add the HT-Air MKII wireless system to any compatible HT model, confirming the pairing first.
