Meet MonAcoustic
MonAcoustic is a high-end loudspeaker maker that hand crafts every model in the Republic of Korea. As an authorized dealer, All Elite Audio is proud to bring the PlatiMon line to listeners who want precision, coherence and a sense of the performers being present in the room. MonAcoustic builds passive loudspeakers only, which keeps the focus entirely on transducer design, cabinet craft and voicing. That single minded approach is a big part of what makes these speakers special.
This guide walks you through the two PlatiMon models we carry, explains the engineering ideas behind them, and helps you decide where to start and how to grow your system over time.
The Virtual Coaxial Point Source Idea
The heart of the PlatiMon line is a Virtual Coaxial (VC) driver arrangement. The goal is simple to describe and hard to execute: get the drivers to behave like a single point source, so the sound arrives at your ears as if it came from one coherent origin rather than several separate cones scattered across a baffle.
Why does that matter? When high frequencies and midrange frequencies radiate from a shared acoustic center, the timing and phase relationships line up cleanly. The result is imaging that locks into place with unusual precision. Voices sit at a believable height and width, instruments occupy stable positions, and the soundstage keeps its focus even as you move slightly off the ideal seat. A coincident point source presentation also tends to blend the drivers so seamlessly that you stop thinking about tweeters and woofers and simply hear music.
The AMT Tweeter
PlatiMon uses a US-designed AMT, or Air Motion Transformer, tweeter. Rather than pushing air with a simple dome, an AMT uses a pleated diaphragm that squeezes air out of its folds, moving a large surface area with very little mass. That design goal favors speed and low distortion in the high frequencies, which supports the airy, detailed top end that suits the point source concept so well.
Custom German Mid-Woofers
The midrange and bass duties are handled by custom German mid-woofers built to MonAcoustic's specification. Pairing these with the AMT allows the crossover to hand off cleanly and keep the drivers acting as one. The combination is what gives the PlatiMon line its coherent, tightly focused character.
PlatiMon VC One MKII: The Stand Mount
The MonAcoustic PlatiMon VC One MKII is a two-way stand mount that brings the full VC philosophy into a compact cabinet. It combines the AMT tweeter with 5.25 inch mid-woofers in a Virtual Coaxial arrangement, uses dual rear ports, and covers roughly 45Hz to 28kHz. Sensitivity is about 91dB with a 4 ohm nominal impedance.
What you hear from the VC One MKII is that hallmark point source focus in a speaker that disappears into the room. It is an excellent match for small and medium spaces, for near field listening, and for anyone who values pinpoint imaging and a clean, holographic soundstage.
The Optional Decoupled Stand
MonAcoustic offers a dedicated decoupled stand for the VC One MKII that uses tungsten ball bearings to isolate the speaker from the floor. Decoupling helps preserve the clarity and image stability the design is built to deliver, so if you plan to run the VC One MKII as your primary speaker, the matched stand is a natural companion.
PlatiMon VC Two: Full-Range Floorstanding
The MonAcoustic PlatiMon VC Two takes the VC One MKII and mounts it on top of a matching bass module to create a full-range floorstanding system. The bass module adds a 1 inch beryllium dome super-tweeter and an 8 inch woofer, extending the design into a four-way system that reaches from about 20Hz to 40kHz.
This is the PlatiMon idea scaled up for larger rooms and for listeners who want deep, room filling low frequency foundation and extended air on top, all while keeping the coherent point source presentation of the stand mount at its core. Where the VC One MKII is designed to excel in intimate settings, the VC Two is designed to fill more space and reproduce the full frequency range with authority.
How to Step Up From the VC One MKII to the VC Two
One of the elegant things about the PlatiMon line is how naturally the two models relate. Because the VC Two is built around the same VC One MKII stand mount sitting atop a matching bass module, the family voicing carries through. Within this same MonAcoustic range, the VC Two legitimately offers more: added low frequency extension from the 8 inch woofer, additional high frequency air from the beryllium super-tweeter, and a full-range four-way presentation.
A practical way to think about it: if you are starting in a smaller room or want to begin with the stand mount, the VC One MKII gives you the essential PlatiMon experience. When your room grows, or when you want deeper bass and full-range scale, the VC Two continues the same design story in floorstanding form. Both share the coincident point source approach, the AMT tweeter and the custom German mid-woofers, so the character you fall in love with stays consistent as you move up.
Choosing an Amplifier
MonAcoustic makes no amplifiers or other electronics, so every PlatiMon speaker needs a separate amplifier scaled to its level. These are passive loudspeakers, and they reward a quality amplifier that can control the drivers and deliver clean power into a 4 ohm load. The VC One MKII benefits from an amplifier with good grip and finesse to reveal its imaging. The VC Two, with its four-way full-range design and 8 inch woofer, asks for an amplifier capable of driving a larger system with confidence.
Matching the amplifier to the speaker and to your room is where a well set up system truly comes together. This is exactly the kind of pairing we enjoy helping with.
