Instead of amplifying the voltage a cartridge produces, it amplifies its current, presenting a near zero ohm load to the coils. That removes cartridge loading from the equation completely: there are no loading plugs or dip switches to set, because there is nothing to match. For a low impedance moving coil it is the most direct way to get the signal out, and it is the reason these have the reputation they do for low level detail and quiet backgrounds.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSutherland built it by combining two of his own designs in one chassis, taking the transimpedance input stage from the Little LOCO Mk2 and the second gain stage from the KC Vibe. Gain is set at the factory to Medium and can be moved 6 dB up or down internally. It runs from the standard external 48 volt supply that mounts under the chassis, which is included.
